Dorian Gregory Actor

Dorian Gregory

Dorian returns for a seventh season on WB's series "Charmed", where he plays " Lt. Darryl Morris". Gregory's career has grown steadily from his beginnings in local theater, skit-comedy, television and commercials. He began his television career with recurring and guest starring roles in series such as Murder She Wrote, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Pacific Blue and Prey. He also appeared in a variety of comedy series such as Girlfriends, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Moesha, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Living Single, Moesha and The WB's The Steve Harvey Show. Before joining the cast of Charmed, Gregory co-starred as the parapsychologist Diamont Teague on the syndicated nighttime drama Baywatch Nights. Gregory's feature film work includes Deliver Us from Eva, starring opposite L.L. Cool J and Gabrielle Union, Just Write with Jeremy Piven, and The Apocalypse, with Sandra Bernhard. He also appeared in the Disney made-for-television movie, The Barefoot Executive. He can next be seen in the up-coming feature film Getting Played, starring opposite Vivica A. Fox, Carmen Electra and Bill Bellamy. Last year, Gregory became the host of television's longest-running show, Soul Train, which is celebrating its 33rd season. Prior to that, Gregory added the role of talk show host to his repertoire when he joined Dick Clark, Danny Bonaduce and Mario Lopez on the daytime talk program The Other Half. Gregory is one of the founding members of the Epiphany Theater Group, established by actor/writer/producer/director Bill Duke. He also co-hosted the "politically incorrect" syndicated radio show Lighten Up. An active humanitarian, Gregory is involved in organizations such as the Jeopardy Program sponsored by the Los Angeles Police Department for youths at risk and the American Diabetes Association, for which he serves as the national spokesperson. Gregory currently resides in Los Angeles.

Gregory was born on January 26, 1971, in Washington, District Of Columbia, USA. Dorian played bass from elementary school to his freshman year in high school, when musical expression shifted to D.J.'ing at parties -- which led to forming a house party D.J. /MC service with some friends. With a college major in broadcasting and television production, access to the college production facilities put Dorian in demand (on campus) as a "producer". He worked with some local bands in the production of their music demos, which included some "really low budget" music video demos using aspiring actors who wanted " footage for their reel". Dorian even performed some vocals at a few venues.

Although he was still studying production, Dorian went on some "open casting calls" (as an actor) for commercials . That's when his focus shifted. Dorian began taking acting classes, theater workshops, and scene study. To pay the bills and maintain a flexible work schedule, he started working as a personal fitness trainer and in club promotions --which segued into work as a Doorman/ Bouncer/ D. J., at some local night clubs in North Hollywood and the "Valley".

After finding an agent, that would take on an actor with little to no experience, Dorian started getting semi-regular work in commercials, music videos (even one with Michael Jackson), sports and athletic wear print modeling jobs, some sketch comedy troupe work, and eventually, some principal commercial work and various roles in Soaps, situation comedies, dramatic TV series, Indie's and MOW's (while still holding his Doorman / Bouncer/ D. J. job).

Dorian booked his first series in 1996 co-starring, as parapsychologist Diamont Teague, on the weekly syndicated dramatic series "Baywatch Nights". This led to a number of guest star appearances on prime time TV series such as Living Single, Prey , Moesha, The Steve Harvey Show, Third Rock from the Sun and some film work. During this time, Dorian also worked as guest cohost of rhe "politically incorrect" weekly radio talk show "The Cigar Show" ,he did a kickboxing workout video, calendar layouts (circa 1998,1999, 2000, 2001), and voiceovers.

In 1998 Dorian took on the role of Detective Darryl Morris on the WB weekly dramatic series "Charmed". Fall "2004" Dorian will mark his 7th season as Detective Darryl Morris on "Charmed" .
In spring of 2002, Dorian took on the role of cohost with Dick Clark, Danny Bonaduce and Mario Lopez on the "The Other Half" (which airs in syndication on NBC).

Art of being Dorian Gregory

This season marks Dorian Gregory's seventh season as Lieutenant Darryl Morris on The WB's Charmed.

The Power Of One: "I'm really glad Darryl [Inspector Morris on Charmed] is starting to have more of a backbone. The man has some edge now. It's not that he is mean or nasty, he's just operating from a whole new rulebook."
Handsome, Single, TV Detective Seeks... "I am still looking for that one special person. Dating is not my thing. You may see me at parties and clubs but I don't actually like going out. I'm only out because I'm looking. I know she's out there somewhere."

My Other Halves: "Are the people involved in my life: my mother, my father. Extraordinarily wise people who are not really affected by much... It's real hard to knock them off their center."

Different Strokes: "I like to think I'm the kind of person who allows people to have their eccentricities. Things that earlier in life you might have called a flaw, now you call it endearing."

And Now, For My Encore... "Music is my passion. I write music and I sing. You should check out my band [MD Says]. We've got a very eclectic sound. It's a fusion of neo hip hop, spoken word, soul with some Arabic and Latin influences thrown in too."
