They're the proud parents of daughter Kaya McKenna. Eva Maria LaRuy ( La Rue) was born on December 27, 1966, in Long Beach, California, USA. Eva La Rue was raised in Norco, CA by her Puerto Rican-French father and her Dutch mother. From an early age, she was singing and dancing, which led to work in commercials (including spots for Del Monte green beans and Fanta Orange). As a child she was performed for First Lady Nancy Reagan. She was accepted to UCLA, but decided instead to pursue an acting career full-time. She guest-starred on such series as PERFECT STRANGERS and MARRIED ... WITH CHILDREN before landing her first soap gig, a short run on SANTA BARBARA as Margot. In 1993, she joined the cast of AMC, where she met future husband John Callahan. They tied the knot in 1996. The following year, La Rue left Pine Valley to pursue a prime-time career. Roles on the UPN sitcom HEAD OVER HEELS and the NBC drama THIRD WATCH followed. In 2002, after the birth of her first child, daughter Kaya, La Rue rejoined AMC. She and hubby Callahan met a woman named Kaya on their Hawaiian honeymoon and liked her name, thus inspiring their own daughter's moniker.
This past year, Eva La Rue was awarded the esteemed Gracie Allen Award by the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television for Individual Achievement, Lead Actor-Daytime Drama. She received her award at the Gracie Awards in New York City on June 22, 2004. She was also nominated for a 2004 Daytime Emmy for Best Original Song for her song, "Dance Again With You". La Rue served as host for the 2004 100 Hispanic Women Awards Gala on April 21st and she was be seen in the recent stage production of the Women of 9. She also appeared on the season finale of Hope and Faith.
La Rue has won the hearts of both prime-time and daytime audiences with her natural charisma and animated personality. TV Guide referred to La Rue as “a movie queen ripe for the picking… Beneath her exotic, erotic exterior is a deeply touching star-spangled wholesomeness.”
Her dynamic portrayal of Dr. Maria Santos on the ABC daytime drama “All My Children”, earned her both an Emmy and NAACP Nomination and an ALMA for Outstanding Actress in a daytime drama. She returned to this role in the summer of 2002 after an absence of 5 years. In addition, La Rue moonlights as a correspondent for the TV show, “EXTRA!” and she has begun her duties as the show’s weekend anchor!
La Rue’s other television credits include a previous recurring guest starring role on NBC’s “Third Watch.” She played Brooke, the wife of Eddie Cibrian’s character, Jimmy Doherty. La Rue also recurred on Showtime’s hit series “Soul Food” and she dazzled us in her leading role as Carmen in the UPN sitcom, “Head Over Heels.” La Rue also starred in Danielle Steel’s “Remembrance,” an NBC movie of the week. She then went on to play Annette Funicello in the highly rated CBS movie of the week, “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes: The Annette Funicello Story.”

La Rue currently resides in New York with her daughter Kaya McKenna. She divorced with her spouse actor John Callahan in July 2004. La Rue enjoys gardening and decorating and currently she is renovating her 100-year-old East Coast home!
Eva La Rue: Exotic, Erotic, Classy
Eva La Rue's beauty still holds up despite multiple baby mishaps, getting blown up in a plane crash and suffering from amnesia -- even if it was only on TV. In real life, though, we like how she's held up under personal and professional stresses, while remaining devoted to her daughter.
Eva La Rue has been seen on TV for over 15 years, on shows from Married... with Children to Third Watch. But her most famous gig has been as Dr. Maria Santos Grey on the soap opera All My Children from 1993 to 1997, and again from 2002 to the present.
Eva La Rue has an energetic and sensitive personality, but at the same time she knows when to give herself a break, such as when she first left All My Children. When she returned to daytime soaps, she showed her loyalty to the show that had treated her well, even though she had received other offers. Plus, she (like just about any mother) dotes on and takes much pride in her daughter, Kaya.
Eva's acting talent has earned her Daytime Emmy and Image Award nominations for her work on All My Children, in addition to an ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Award for Best Actress in 1998. Eva also likes to sing; she's been doing it since she was a child, and takes the opportunity to sing at sports events or other venues. She's even released her own CD, and her song "Dance Again With You" received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2004.
The people at TV Guide best summed up Eva La Rue's attractive qualities when they wrote, "beneath her exotic, erotic exterior is a deeply touching star-spangled wholesomeness." In spite of her near-perfect looks and sexy physique, Eva's appeal always seems to be classy.
Unfortunately, Eva has been unlucky in love. She was divorced after a brief marriage to John O'Hurley in 1994, and her eight-year marriage to John Callahan recently fell apart as well. But while All My Children's fans might lament the end of that fairy-tale romance, it does mean that Eva La Rue is available once again.
Eva La Rue started out singing TV jingles as a child, then went on to act on TV and in film. Her greatest career break came in 1993, when she first starred on All My Children. Since then, she's hosted shows like Extra!, starred in TV movies like A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes: The Annette Funicello Story and even released her own album, Only You.
Eva is quite famous in the soap opera world; she's been featured in Soap Opera Updated, Soap Opera Weekly, Soaps In Depth, and Soap Opera Digest. While she's not as well-known in mainstream entertainment, she's made appearances in a broad range of publications, including Catalina, First For Women, Fit, Woman's World, Estylo, (Spanish) Cosmopolitan, Latina, People, and Inland Empire.
Eva La Rue has beautiful, delicate features that come from a broad mix of backgrounds: Puerto Rican, French, Dutch, and Scottish. She definitely has the face of a former model, which, with her wide hazel eyes and light brown hair, still looks great even as she approaches 40.
Nor does the rest of Eva disappoint. She stands 5'7½" tall, and, judging by her shapely figure, it's easy to believe that she used to model for Frederick's of Hollywood. While her bikini photo-shoot days may be over, Eva still stays in shape, remaining active with horseback riding and tae kwon do.
Eva La Rue has a good head for clothes; when dressed up, she tends to favor simple yet elegant dresses. But Eva looks just as stylish in more casual clothes, such as a long-sleeve T and jeans.
Eva's role on All My Children puts her in the position of wearing great designer outfits on a regular basis, and Eva's taste often overlaps with that of her onscreen character, Dr. Maria Santos Grey. For her (second) marriage to Edmund Grey on the show, Eva wore a Donna Karan dress with Ralph Lauren sandals: "I just love it," she later said, "love, love, love it."
Eva La Rue's beautiful gift
What belated anniversary present did Eva La Rue Callahan (ex-Maria) give her husband John? A beautiful baby girl!
On December 6 — less than a week after they celebrated five years as husband and wife — a wonderful gift arrived for former AMC co-stars Eva La Rue and John Callahan (Edmund): the birth of the couple's first child, Kaya McKenna (weighing in at 7 lbs., 1 oz., and 21 inches long).
"This is definitely the greatest thing we have ever done together," Eva shared with Soaps In Depth just prior to her most special delivery. And the past nine months have shown Eva a new, yet not at all surprising side to her loving mate. "John has always been a fabulous husband," she raves, "but he has been just amazing [during the pregnancy]. He's so caretaking, always making sure I don't do too much, and making dinner almost every night for the past two weeks. He has been the model husband."
Now, John is blessed with the opportunity to play model parent, a role which both he and his wife have longed to fill. "We have been talking about milestones, moments in our lives that we will never forget," says Eva. "And John said that this was probably the biggest one for him — after so many years of wanting to have kids, to finally hear that I was pregnant."
"It was big for me, too!" she adds with a laugh.
While the Callahans could only wonder which gender of healthy bouncing baby the stork would ultimately bring, Eva says John already had the little one's fate decided. "Whether it's a boy or a girl, my husband the sports freak is going to be playing ball with it in the yard," she quips. "I don't think the girl has a chance!
"In fact," she continues, "he is very bummed about the whole soccer trend. John feels completely betrayed by his nation, that the move would be toward soccer and away from baseball. It's his one-man mission, I think, to make sure that baseball experiences a comeback — with our kids!"
A Conversation with AMC's Eva La Rue
It's rare that you'll meet a celebrity as generous and sweet as actress Eva La Rue, otherwise known as Maria from ABC's "All My Children".

La Rue: Someone stopped me and everyone else in the airport was trying to decide if I was "Maria" -- then finally decided I wasn't.
In the past year, your character Maria came back from the dead and had amnesia for quite some time before she remembered who she was. What would you like to see happen next with your character?
La Rue: I don't have much of an opinion about what happens to "Maria" next. I kinda like going along for the ride.
We heard that you like to go antique shopping. Did you get a chance to do some shopping during your visit?
La Rue: Oh yeah, no shop went unseen.
Had you ever been to Maine before and will you be coming back for a longer stay?
La Rue: I had never been to Maine before, but I will definitely be coming back in the summer. Keep that under your hats though, because Maine seems like the last of the best kept secrets.

Eva La Rue supports Charity Gala for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
'Soapy' Gift Bags Wow Daytime TV Stars at Charity Gala, Raise Money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Klein Creative helped ‘As The World Turns’ star Martha Byrne thank celebrities including Michael Park, Roger Howarth, Tamara Tunie and Eva La Rue for supporting the 10th Annual Daytime TV Salutes St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by creating a special gift bag. One extra bag was auctioned on eBay and added hundreds more to the charity totals.
New York, (PRWEB) November 1, 2004 -- In addition to impressing the celebrities at the 10th Annual Daytime Television Salutes St. Jude Children's Research Hospital gala this month, the soapy, sexy celebrity gift bags produced by Klein Creative Communications also helped raise hundreds of dollars for the charity. An eBay auction of the exclusive bag fetched $500 this weekend, capping off the $250,000-plus raised at the star-studded October 8 gala hosted by Martha Byrne of As The World Turns at New York City's Marriott Marquis.
Nearly 1,000 fans attended the St. Jude gala, along with their favorite stars -- and the goodie bags were almost as major a presence on the red carpet as the celebs! Many of the 100 Daytime actors attending posed with the auction bag, including Martha Byrne, Sarah Brown, AJ Lamas, and Michael Park (ATWT), Tamara Tunie (ATWT and Law & Order: SVU), Kyle Lowder (Days of Our Lives), Scott Bailey and Kim Zimmer (Guiding Light), Eva La Rue (All My Children), Michael Graziadei and Lauren Woodland (The Young & The Restless), Ilene Kristen (One Life to Live), Amelia Marshall and Rodney Van Johnson (Passions), Ted King (General Hospital) and reality stars like Jeff Varner (Survivor: Australian Outback), Will Wikle (Big Brother 5), and Alicia Calaway (Survivor: Australia and Survivor: All-Stars).
Products in the VIP totes were carefully chosen to suit the lifestyle of a daytime soap star, on- and off-screen. Each bag held $1,000 worth of treats from Amara Creekside Resort, Avon Trade Paperbacks, Besame Cosmetics, Bissinger's Handcrafted Chocolatier, Braincandy, Cakes by Jane, Edible Arrangements, Olay Complete, The Neostrata Company, Prashe, Shopbop.com, Skimpies -- Less is Always More Lingerie, Spa Parties, Stark Sisters Granola, Team Blonde Jewelry, Steaz Green Tea Soda, and Warm Spirit.
Benefit founder and two-time Daytime Emmy Award winning actress Martha Byrne said she was pleased that Klein Creative could work with sponsors to create such a gift for the actors. "We wanted to show our appreciation to all of the actors who took time out of their busy schedules to attend the St. Jude benefit and aid such a worthy cause," she said. "The gift bags were sensational and added to a wonderful night!"
Eva and John, Edmund and Maria
Two SoapNet programs caught my attention over the weekend. The first featured Eva La Rue in what was the most uncomfortable 30 minutes in SoapNet history!
Eva appeared on that One Day With ... show with Wally Kurth, and I must say Wally went for it with his questions, dipping into Barbara Waltersesque territory.
Eva is married to John Callahan in real life, and on All My Children their characters -- Maria and Edmund -- are married. Neither the real-life couple nor the fictional one are too happy right now. So when we viewers see Edmund and Maria struggling, I start thinking about real-life and separated Eva and John. This has been going on for months.
Anyway, back to One Day With ... ... After a tour of Eva's New Jersey home, which they purchased from Olympia Dukakis (!!), Wally and Eva had a latte and a chat. Here's what we learned.
+ John now lives down the street. Eva may sell the house in the spring.
+ Someone hurt the other one bad. No specifics. They don't want people taking sides.
+ They were separated a year -- and working as a merrily married couple -- before it became widely known. So we're uncomfortable watching them work together, but they're used to it.
+ The writers are going to continue the love triangle of Edmund, Maria and Zach!
+ When Wally asked how she would feel if the writers started "writing her life," Eva did a mini-gulp and said "Well, no one knows what happened. Only the two people involved know, and that's how it's going to stay."
+ Eva's not sure she'll ever love as deeply again (They've been together 10 years. Wally looked really bummed out by this fact).
+ Eva wants "at some point" to move back to California, where her family and closest girlfriends are. She reckons John would go too, but it's hard to say. Oh, so very awkward!
+ Meanwhile, in the house, Eva has a framed picture of herself with (on-screen sister) Sydney Penny, Kelly Ripa and Sarah Michelle Gellar, whom Eva refers to only as "Sarah Gellar."
Anyway, after all this, Eva and Wally carved a pumpkin and got lost in a corn maze. Divorce is fun after all!
