Heidi stars as "Kay Bennett" on NBC's soap opera "Passions". Kay is the scheming daughter of Sam and Grace Bennett, sister of older brother, Noah and younger sister, Jessica. Kay has always felt like anoutsider in her own family, and strongly believes that her mother cares more about everyone else in Harmony than she does her own daughter! Kay will stop at nothing to get Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald, the boy she has loved since childhood. After tricking Miguel into sleeping with her, Kay became pregnant with his baby and gave birth to Maria Ivy. Kay is determined to use her baby to win Miguel once and for all. Kay is the only person in Harmony who knows that her roommate Tabitha is really a witch.
Heidi was born on January 29, 1982, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Heidi originally went to the try-outs for The Bachelor, with her older sister Karla (Barela) there for support. She didn't get that role, but NBC found the family intriguing and told them about the Who Wants to Marry My Dad? show. Heidi, a 'hopeless romantic', was thrilled when her father agreed. When Who Wants to Marry My Dad? began, Heidi (at 21) was the youngest of Don Mueller's (then 48) four children. Her older siblings are brothers Chris (then 22) and Joe (then 26), and her older sister, Karla (then 25), was the only one of the four who had been married (married name Barela). They chose Christena Ferran as their father's bride, and if the wedding goes through, the four will gain a teenage step-brother, Joe, and teenage step-sister, Ashleigh.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Heidi recently relocated to Los Angeles with her brother Chris, 22, to embark upon her acting career with PASSIONS. She holds a modeling contract with the esteemed Willimena Agency. Though PASSIONS is her first contract television role, Mueller has appeared in numerous television commercials including a recent one for Crest White Strips. Mueller loves Los Angeles but travels back to Cincinnati quite frequently to visit her family. She is currently in her senior year at Liberty University in Virginia and since joining PASSIONS has been able to keep up with her studies via the Internet and external campus classrooms. She expects to graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology in June of 2004.
In December of 2004, Heidi got engaged to actor Matthew Lawrence. The two are set to marry in June of 2006.
Meet Heidi Mueller
On October 24, PASSIONS got a little "reality" as WHO WANTS TO MARRY MY DAD?'s Heidi Mueller stepped in as Kay. Here's a peek into how Mueller's Harmony (and L.A.) life is progressing -- and just which WWTMMD former contestant she still talks to every day.
Digest: How was your first day at PASSIONS?
Heidi Mueller: Everyone is really nice and I thought it went well.
Digest: How far in advance did you get your script?
Mueller: Maybe the week before. I was studying every day, all day, all night so that I had those lines down. I worked with the acting coach and ran lines with her over and over again.
Digest: How do you memorize your lines?
Mueller: I feel like I have a photographic memory; I can memorize pretty quick, so it wasn't really the memorizing that I struggle with, it's more the acting part, since I've never done it before.
Digest: Your first scene was with Juliet Mills's Tabitha. How did that go?
Mueller: She is just amazing. It makes the job so much easier! She's so sweet and was so welcoming and I love her to death. She's great.
Digest: Did she give you any advice?
Mueller: Actually, just watching her is enough. She said that I was doing alright. There were a couple of lines here and there where I said, "Hey listen, if there's anything you want to say, you just tell me, ‘Heidi, that was horrible.' You go ahead and say it and I'll change it." I watched how she's very organized and she's very into her work and just watching her taught me a lot.
Digest: Was there any supernatural stuff involved on your first day?
Mueller: Yes, there were some special effects. It's so much fun. It's the coolest thing. I love it. It's not your normal, everyday story, so it's fun.
Digest: Have you settled into your dressing room yet?
Mueller: There's really nothing in there yet. I need to bring some stuff in; that's the next step. I'm sharing with Danica [Stewart, Jessica]. She's very, very sweet.
Digest: And what about your apartment? All moved in?
Mueller: Yes, actually I am. There are a couple of pieces of furniture that still haven't arrived, but other than that, it feels like home.
Digest: Coming from Cincinnati, have you adjusted to L.A. yet?
Mueller: I'm not yet used to it. All these freeways, I don't know where I'm going. I know how to get around where I live, but that's about it. But I like it; it's nice out here. I like the weather. I feel like I'm on a big vacation. I'm not used to all this. Back home right now, it starts getting cold
Digest: Your brother Chris just moved to L.A. as well.
Mueller: Right now, he's hanging out at my place. I'm like, "We will find you a place soon, Chris." I think he's going to live nearby. It's great to have him out here. I feel more relaxed because he's like my best friend, so it feels better. I knew that he had always wanted to move out here, but I didn't know that he was going to until the week before. I was crying 'cause I've been by myself, so just to have one person from my family here is great.
Digest: Is he acting?
Mueller: He's going to try to pursue it like everybody else [here].
Digest: Have you been recognized from MARRY MY DAD?
Mueller: People recognized us when we would go out occasionally. It's not like people go crazy, but when you least expect it, we'll get, "I know you from somewhere." I'm like, "No, you don't." It's funny.
Digest: Do you still keep in touch with any of the MARRY MY DAD contestants?
Mueller: Yeah, I do. I probably talk to [finalist Cynthia] more than anyone else. We talk to each other almost every day. She's the nicest person. She's the sweetest, sweetest person ever. And I still keep in touch with [winner] Christena, as well. She just came to visit with [her son and daughter] Joe and Ashleigh. And I went to visit her [in San Diego] as well.
Digest: Are Christena and your dad still together?
Mueller: They're taking it day by day. He still lives in Ohio, she's still here in California, and neither one is moving, so they're just doing the best they can, I guess. I got them together and now it's up to them.
[NOTE: Since this interview was conducted press reports have indicated that Christena and Heidi's father have decided not to wed, because neither wishes to move to be with the other.]
NBC Daytime Drama 'Passions' Signs Heidi Mueller
Heidi Mueller, one of the daughters featured on NBC’s summer hit reality series “Who Wants to Marry My Dad?,” will join the cast of NBC's daytime drama “Passions” in the contract role of Kay Bennett - the scheming and manipulative daughter of Harmony Police Chief Sam Bennett and his wife Grace. The announcement was made today by Sheraton Kalouria, Senior Vice President, NBC Daytime.
“We are delighted to have Heidi join the talented cast of ‘Passions,’” says Kalouria. Mueller is set to start taping the week of September 8, 2003. Her first broadcast date is scheduled for Thursday, October 23. “Passions” will mark Mueller’s acting debut.
On the reality series, Mueller was the opinionated daughter of Don who put his trust in his four kids to choose a wife for him. Through outrageous secret tasks, surprising revelations about each player’s past and “lie-detector” tests, the kids recently picked his fiancée. "Who Wants to Marry My Dad?" averaged a 3.9 rating, 11 share among adults 18-49, tying it for the #5 ranking among all prime-time series this summer. The reality series won its time period over CBS' "CSI: Miami" with four of its five telecasts in 18-49. "Who Wants to Marry My Dad?" also averaged 9.3 million viewers overall, making it a top-15 series by that measure.
Based on the rich history and mystery of the harbor community of Harmony, "Passions" explores the lives, loves and losses of four core families: the Cranes, the Lopez-Fitzgeralds, the Bennetts and the Russells, each of whom have their own distinct and diverse personalities. It also features a 300-year-old witch, Tabitha Lenox (Juliet Mills). "Passions" is the creation of celebrated daytime drama scribe, James E. Reilly, who is considered by many industry insiders to be one of the most innovative and prolific writers of the genre. Reilly has created some of the most talked-about storytelling in daytime drama, including characters who are buried alive, or possessed, as well as daytime's first-ever multiple character on NBC's "Days of Our Lives." "Passions" is produced by NBC Studios in association Outpost Farms Productions, Inc. and is taped in Studio City, California. Lisa de Cazotte is the executive producer.
