Pratt's television credits include appearances on Joan of Arcadia, Nip/Tuck, Boston Public, C.S.I:  Crime Scene Investigation, That '70's Show, ER, and The WB's 7th Heaven, Maybe It's Me and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. She also starred as Veronica Ridgeway, the young spoiled daughter of the Ridgeway family on the WB's The Help. In her free time, Pratt continues her ballet studies and enjoys snowboarding, snowmobiles and jet-skiing, Nerd candies and Chick Fli-A fast food restaurants. Keri- Lynn McCaelan Pratt was born on September 23, 1978, in Concord,New Hampshire. She has two cats, Halo and Spirit, which she shares with her boyfriend. Keri Lynn also plays piano. In 1994 she won Miss New Hampshire Teen USA and also participated in Miss Teen USA on CBS.
Keri Lynn Pratt is not a dumb blonde
While you may have gotten used to her trademark ditzy performances in flicks like Drive Me Crazy and on the WB's Jack & Bobby, this former dancer (and NYU business school major) is smart enough to know a good thing when she sees it (after all, she's the one who gets to make out with Matt Long for a living). We were totally lovin' the fact that Keri was up for answering any of our questions.
If you looked up the word misnomer (i.e. a name wrongly or unsuitably applied to a person or an object) in the dictionary, you'd probably find a picture of Keri right next to it. While you might assume she's into beauty and bling like most Hollywood actresses, the reality is, this East Coast girl is decidedly Midwestern at heart. "I'm not into make-up or dressing up at all," she admits, laughing. "I only dress up or wear stuff on my face if I'm working or going to a premiere." This former small-town girl (and outdoor enthusiest) admits she's happiest when she's hangin' out with her boyfriend (a musical composer)and friends or kickin' it back home in Derry, New Hampshire with her extended fam. "It's such a little area - nobody ever gives me the star treatment," she explains. Instead, they either hang out by the family pond or hit the mall like normal folks. "I just avoid the video store," Keri jokes.
You may want to scream at the TV every time Keri's J&B character, Missy starts swapping spit with Jack (instead of Courtney), but she's begging you to give her TV alter-ego a chance. "Missy is one of the few people on the show that's really honest," she protests. "She says what she means, she's really confident, she goes after what she wants, and she's a good person at heart." So how much of Missy has rubbed off on Keri and vice versa? "I totally wouldn't go after a guy," she admits. "That's so not me - I'm really shy." But, Keri does believe in going after your dreams. "I was really into dancing when I was younger, but I knew it wasn't something I wanted to do forever. At the time, being a pilot was my dream. The next thing you know, I'm taking flying lessons so I could get my pilot's license!"
First Lady of...?
We know there's no chance Keri's TV character is making it to the White House (since Jack &Bobby's evil producers had to go and ruin the big "who's the president" surprise by the second episode), but we couldn't help but wonder what role Missy would play if she was invited to join the president's posse. "Definitely something in communications," Keri says giggling. "Missy obviously has no problem getting her point across." While Missy's future may be up in the air, Keri's is not. Besides a two-year contract with J&B, she's also hitting the big screen again this December in Fat Albert. "I'm playing this really popular, perky cheerleader," she explains, laughing. "Big surprise, right?"
Catch Keri and the rest of the cast of Jack & Bobby Wednesday nights at 9PM ET on the WB.
Keri Lynn Pratt is America's Sweetheart
Many girls get star-struck at an early age.
Keri Lynn Pratt wasn't one of them.
The 25-year-old Derry, N.H., native wanted to be an airline pilot, following in her dad Buddy's footsteps, until fame and fortune came calling.
"I am sure if it didn't work out, she would be taking more flying lessons," said the now retired Buddy Pratt from his Weston Street home. "I am glad she didn't now."
Keri Lynn Pratt is starring in the WB show "The Help," a new dark comedy from the creators of "Married ... With Children." The show, airing Fridays at 9:30 p.m., also stars "Facts of Life" veteran Mindy Cohn, "90210" alumnus Tori Spelling and former "Married ... With Children" star David Faustino.
"I go to work every day and I am so thankful," she said. "It's not an opportunity everybody gets a chance to have. I know that and I am trying to enjoy it."
The show follows the exploits of the extremely rich Ridgeway family and the surrogate family of servants -- the help -- who care for them. Pratt plays eldest daughter Veronica Ridgeway, a former teen pop idol with the one-hit wonder "Who Does Your Nails?"
"She invented bubble-gum rap," said Pratt, with a giggle.
Like "Married ... With Children," "The Help" mixes a little bit of raunchiness with humor, trading on the character flaws of the stunningly rich Ridgeway family and the cantankerous army of servants who cater to their every whim.
Buddy Pratt went out to see the filming for the show's episode airing tonight.
"I liked it," he said. "I really do think it's a big thing for her -- there are so many people after these jobs and there are so many reality shows."
Keri Lynn Pratt works all week for the half-hour sitcom. She's in rehearsal Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Fridays, she films episodes in front of a live studio audience at 7:30 p.m., wrapping up the show around 1 a.m. So far the show has seven episodes in the can.
"It's so fun though," she said. "You get to work in your sweats all week."
In the last two weeks, the show received high ratings, performing better than anything else the WB has put in that time slot. Pratt is cautiously optimistic about it becoming a hit.
"It's hard to tell," she said. "We'll see in the next couple of weeks if people keep watching."
Before this show, Pratt's career spanned television and film. Her big break came in 1999 with Melissa Joan Hart's film "Drive Me Crazy." Pratt also appeared on her show "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" and more recently "Joan of Arcadia," "Nip/Tuck," "Boston Public" and "C.S.I." In film, Pratt starred opposite Oliver Hudson (Goldie Hawn's son) in "The Smokers" and with Christopher Walken in "America's Sweethearts."
Pratt starred in three other prime-time pilots that never made it to the air.
She never intended a career in show business. Her first taste of the spotlight came in 1994, when she was crowned Miss Teen New Hampshire, later competing in the nationally televised Miss Teen USA contest. Her pageant prizes included acting-lesson scholarships, which Pratt enjoyed enough to pursue as a career.
She graduated from Pinkerton Academy two years later, attending New York University as a business major while studying dancing at the Broadway Dance Center. In 1998 she was tapped for the 1999 hit "Drive Me Crazy" -- later moving to California to continue working in television and film.
"She started right out of high school with a wish and a bag," said Buddy Pratt. "We are very proud of her."
Keri Lynn Pratt gets to Derry as often as she can to visit her parents, siblings, niece and nephew.
"I miss them so much it's crazy," said Pratt, who was especially sorry to miss her 3-year-old nephew Tyler's birthday recently. "It's really tough."
