Steve Howey Actor

Steve Howey

Steve stars as "Van Montgomery" on The WB's comedy series "Reba." Howey spent several of his childhood years living on boats with his parents. They eventually settled in a Los Angeles suburb where he attended junior high and most of high school. After moving to Denver to complete his senior year, Howey earned a basketball scholarship to a junior college in Colorado. When he found his desire to play beginning to wane in his second year, he turned to his father, acting coach Bill Howey, for inspiration. He took his parents' acting classes to try to help reignite his drive to play ball and instead discovered a love for acting. Reba marks Howey's first series starring role. He has previously guest-starred on shows including ER and The Drew Carey Show. He also starred in and produced the independent film Class, which was written and directed by his father and was accepted into the Denver International Film Festival.Howey stars in the upcoming film Supercross about the world of competitive motorcross racing. In the film he plays Ben, a rugged, trash-talking, hard-nosed motocross rider, who is torn between pursuing dreams about making it as a professional racer and the responsibility he feels to take care of his mother and younger brother. In his free time, Howey enjoys playing basketball and writing. He currently resides in Los Angeles. Steve was born on July 12, 1977, in San Antonio, Texas.

Art of being: Steve Howey

Playing the Field: "I used to play basketball. I got a scholarship to junior college and I started taking acting classes to improve my basketball, because there's a lot of similarities. After two years, I got tired of basketball and decided to give acting a try."
Break-Dancing Fool: "In the early '90s, I was in a dance crew called the What Tribe with four of my friends. Hip-hop dance was really huge then. We would go to a warehouse and dance and battle different crews."

The Force is With Him: "I'm a geek, full on. When Star Wars: Episode One came out, I almost cried. When the titles came up, my friend and I were just screaming in the theater."

Bachelor Living: "I live with my brother, and we'll go out and spend $200 on groceries. Within a week, the food's gone, but we still have condiments. When neighbors come over, I say, 'Would you like something to drink? Would you like some mustard?' And then I bring them a spoonful of mustard."

Smooth Operator: "Around the time of prom, I had a girlfriend but I didn't want to ask her in the basic way, so I went up in the mountains and hid a rose and a card that said, "Will you do the honor of accompanying me to the prom?' A couple of hours later, I asked her if she wanted to go for a walk. So we went along the same trail and when we came to the rose and card, I said, 'What is that?' and she was like, 'Oh my God! Somebody left something here. Then she picked it up and saw her name on it."

Steve Howey: "I'm not too keen on taking things seriously"

If I could be a rock star for just one day, I would choose to be:
Brandon Boyd, lead singer of Incubus. He's blowing up right now.

The trait I most admire in friends is:
Brutal honesty.

People would be surprised to discover that I am:
A fan of Tony Bennett. My mom and dad listened to him when I was growing up.

One thing I cannot imagine living without is:

I never leave home without:
My bag of all my stuff. Shirt, socks, underwear, toothbrush. Things happen and you never know when you might need a new pair of drawers.

My friends can count on me to:
Provide a laugh. I'm not too keen on taking things seriously. I like to liven it up.

If you were to peek into my fridge, you would find:
Nothing but condiments, milk, spicy mustard, pickles and mayonnaise. When neighbors come over, I say, "Would you like something to drink or would you like some mustard?"

The three words that best describe me are:
Spiritual, fun, inventive.

Steve Howey: Acting is Life

Acting has been called an art. To some art is defined as what's beautiful. To others it is inner expression. To this group, the art of acting means many things. None of which you'll find in a dictionary.

Acting classes have butchers, bakers, candlestick makers. Each with a dream, a definition and an attitude. Especially the teacher.

In this witty look at an acting class, the students study their art by performing scenes in front of the class. After which, the work is evaluated by the teacher. And, sometimes the unexpected happens is this usually predictable world.

Class was born out of the acting classes that Bill and Carla have conducted for over 20 years (see "About Us"). The tongue-in-cheek take on acting classes also reveals some truths.

Shot in five days, Class used one location, The original Avenue Theater, a well-known Denver theater. The actors were cast from the real-life acting workshops. This project became an experimental work for all, except for the art of the mostly professional crew.

After completion, the 60-minute movie Class was entered in and selected to the Denver International Film Festival.

Class was the first movie that Steve Howey starred in. Steve, who was a student in his parents real acting workshop, also served as one of the Executive Producers for the project. Class also features: John Carven Ashton, Rebecca Buric, Kathryn Christopher, Carl Ezold, Barbara Gehring, Brian Thompson and Dixon White.

Class is now being reedited as a short and will be available for sale.
