In a function at the Sahitya Shiromani Award, Kader Khan revealed fascinating facts of his early life.
He explained the difficult circumstances in which he and his family traveled from Kabul to Mumbai.
He also revealed that his early days were poverty-stricken. His parents were also estranged and divorced within a short time of coming to Mumbai.
He revealed the struggles that he had to go through before he met with success.
“I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1952. But my mother was scared of raising me there. Three of my older brothers had died before they were eight years old. My mother believed there was something wrong in the Kabul air,” he said.
“But the days weren’t easy even after we came to Bombay. We used to stay in a filthy slum in the red-light area as that was the only place we could afford. Although poverty-stricken, my mother insisted that I do not give up studies. She even took me to task once when she discovered that I was planning to work in a tin factory to earn a few rupees,” Khan added.
These struggles made Kader Khan realized the value of education.
He obtained a diploma in engineering and became a professor of civil engineering at the M.H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering in Byculla, Mumbai.
Kader Khan’s love for academics and education is evident from the several books in his office.
Career in movies
Kader Khan has had a very successful career in movies.
He is very famous for his brilliant comedy timing.
He has acted in several blockbuster movies such as Tevar, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Lucky: No Time for Love and Family: Ties of Blood.
He has appeared in character roles in movies starring A-List actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, Govinda, Shakti Kapoor etc.

Yahoo reported that Kader Khan has designed courses for Islamic language studies with the object of removing misconceptions about Islam religion.
“The ill name of Islam is something I want to wash off. Islam spreads peace and if I can do my small bit in spreading harmony,” Kader Khan said.
“With education, a lot of misconceptions about religion can be eradicated. In my own small way, I am trying to further this cause,” he emphasized.
Kader Khan is a devout Muslim.
It is the religious duty of every Muslim to go on Haj Yatra at least one in his lifetime.
Kader Khan fulfilled the duty in 2014 and went on the Haj Yatra accompanied by his sons and family members (see video).
Unfortunately, Kader Khan is not keeping good health.
One can see in the Haj video that he is barely able to support himself. He cannot move without the wheel chair.

It was also claimed that that the versatile actor has virtually lost his memory and cannot recognize even his family members.
It is rumored that Kader Khan may be suffering from Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease.
Kader Khan has tried all medical treatment including ayurvedic treatment at Patanjali, Uttarakhand.
However, there is no marked improvement in his medical condition.

However, he does not stay there presently. He stays in Canada.
